When Barry Gibb took the stage with his son Stephen for an intimate acoustic duet of “Words” and “Stayin’ Alive,” the moment felt timeless. Stripped of disco beats and grand production, the songs revealed their pure emotional core. Father and son exchanged quiet smiles, their voices blending across generations, turning iconic hits into something deeply personal. It wasn’t just a performance—it was a living reminder that the Bee Gees’ legacy still breathes through family, harmony, and love.

Barry Gibb, 74, and Stephen Gibb, 46, recorded a live jamming session back in March 2020 and streamed the medley for lucky Bee Gees fans. The pair gave a stripped-back acoustic performance of three of the band’s most famous songs. These included Stayin’ Alive, Words, and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart.

Recorded at Barry Gibb’s house in Miami, a property the Bee Gee made his permanent home in 1974, the duo sounded effortless as they duetted.

“It felt natural and heartfelt,” Stephen said about the session.

Stephen, a musician in his own right, has been touring as part of his father’s band since 2013. The first-born son of Linda and Barry Gibb, Stephen graduated from music school and developed his skills playing in bands across the United States. These groups include Black Label Society, Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow, and The Underbellys.

A very talented musician, Stephen joined his father as his lead guitarist and went on the remaining Bee Gees’ first solo tour called Mythology in 2013. Since then, Stephen has played regularly for his father as lead guitarist and has also been involved in Bee Gees’ charitable causes.

“Joining my father on stage was a dream come true,” Stephen remarked.

The Mythology Tour was Barry’s first as a solo artist and featured Stephen and Maurice Gibb’s daughter, Samantha, joining Barry in regular performances. Extraordinary moments from these shows include Stephen singing Stayin’ Alive with Barry and Samantha. There was also a beautiful duet where Samantha sang How Can You Mend a Broken Heart with her uncle, and they performed You Win Again while Barry watched on.

In 2017, Stephen and Samantha Gibb formed their own band named The Gibb Collective. This group brought together the talented offspring of brothers Barry, Maurice, Robin, and Andy Gibb, continuing the musical legacy of the Bee Gees family.

“We wanted to honor our family’s heritage by making music together,” Samantha said about the band’s formation.
